One of the most interesting things about dallas is just how the perceptions of crime are. The Dallas Morning News put out a story in 2004 called Dallas at the tipping point. It was great, and put the number one problem as crime.
However, I would have to say that there are quite a number of bubbles that never feel like their area is affected at all. I don't use the world bubble lightly, since it references highland park, but I would add that the suburbs like Plano, and even areas like Uptown and Preston Hollow feel like crime is at least under control. People have called it the Power V - the area between 35 and 75, north of downtown. Much of the weatlth of the city is concentrated in this area, which seems more protected than the rest.
Is this a matter of perception or a fact? Does the media highlight certain areas to the detriment of others?
I welcome comments on this, and will have some follow-ups
